Glimpses Of My Books

- The Dazzling Heights by Katharine McGee (YA- Futuristic Dystopia) 4.5/5 The sequel for The Thousandth Floor was just as good as the first book! The drama, the suspense and mystery, the romance... all of it was phenomenal. As in the first book the story both starts and ends with the death of one of the girls from the tower, adding to suspense. It left feeling good, light hearted... the same way the movie and comics did. There is something about superheroes (that being DC or Marvel) that just brings a smile to your face in the end. Makes you believe in a better world and in the best in people. Although that is a wonderful feeling, the first 200 pages of the book were boring and predictable. I did not enjoy it. I enjoyed One Dark Throne just as much as Three Dark Crowns! It was a perfect sequel. If you haven't read my review for the first book yet you can find it  Here The ending of Three Dark Crowns was superbly written, leaving a lot of questions unanswered.  The book picks up where Three Dark Crowns left off, with the three queens rather bitter at each other and ready to fight for the throne. The pace here is a lot better than in the first book but I must confess I got so anxious while reading it I struggled to read it at a fast pace. Isn't that just odd? Let me put this way: we readers often complain that authors could have made their series shorter. Red Queen for example- I am yet to meet someone who does not agree the second book could have been avoided. It was slow and terrible. In One Dark Throne we have the exact opposite. SO MUCH happens. I was panicking! At the end of every chapter there would be this desperation within me 'but...but...what?' LOL So here...

Leigh Bardugo drives me crazy! She writes both some of my favorite stories and characters AND stories and characters I couldn't care less for. I said something similar a few weeks ago when I wrote the review for Wonder Woman and the same is true here again. The tales fall exactly half and half to me: 3 good ones, 3 bad ones.  The illustrations in the book are AMAZING! I absolutely loved them. But the stories that go along with them missed the mark. Some by a lot, some by a little... They weren't bad, Leigh Bardugo's writing style is nothing but perfection, but the plot at times lacked.  The tales all reminded me of fairy tales we have heard before but with a different ending.The thing is... the beauty of tales is that they are dynamic, full of twists and turns, but all have a satisfactory and heart warming ending. I am absolutely in love with the Beautiful Bastard series. So far each book has been better than the other! My favorite at this time (I still have two to read) is Beautiful Secret. - Beautiful Stranger by Christina Lauren  4.8/5  - Beautiful Beloved by Christina Lauren 4/5  - Beautiful Secret by Christina Lauren 5/5    Beautiful Stranger:  Beautiful Stranger is about Sara and Max. Sara just moved to NY after finding out her fiancé was cheating on her. She is close friends with Chloe and Bennett (Beautiful Bastard) and now works with them. Max is just a hot single guy enjoying life with whatever woman is willing to enjoy it with him. He is also friends with Bennett, they were roommates back in college. Sara wants to have fun, she feels she owes it to herself. And Max is there to make sure she does! Sara does not want anything serious, they meet on Fridays, they have fun, and that is that. NO author can write book endings as well as Marie Lu. She may not be my all time favorite author, but her trilogy endings most certainly are! I am obsessed with the ending for Champion (Legend trilogy) and now with The Midnight Star too. PURE PERFECTION ! 💖 I cried happy tears. I knew not all would survive, I knew the one who had to die... but it was not predictable at all. I was so so so happy with how all the deaths and near deaths happened. The ending is magical, something out of an old tale. I will not be forgetting this any time soon. So... now that you know how much I loved the ending, let's chat about the rest of the book! It was by far the best in the trilogy. The story evolved at a good pace. There was plenty of action, plenty of great moments and twists and turns. Adelina is a beautiful written character. Her life has not been easy and the darkness in her after so much hurt, abuse and betrayal has grown beyond limits. The books starts off with the Adelina...

For Blurb:  The Rose Society I cannot being to describe how stressful this read was! Marie Lu's writing was, as it always is: perfection. It is so easy to get completely lost in the worlds she creates. For the first third of the book I was certain this was going to be even better than the first book.  But... as the story progressed a few predictable things happened and Adelina lost some of the edge I loved about her in the first book. It is only on the last two pages that she gains that dark edge again.  Adelina is a villain. Pure and simple. Are there reasons for it? Sure thing. But all villains have their reasons... her reasons just happened to touch our hearts a little more than most. I loved how the first book showed her progress from a hurt abused kid to a villain seeking revenge. Even though she tried to get close to the Daggers in the first book, it didn't end well. It all worked towards Adelina having a dark soul and a very single minded goal- revenge ...

The Young Elites was a trilogy I put higher on my tbr list due to the hype on my bookstagram circle, and I am glad that I did. This was certainly a worthy read!
