Always Practice Safe Hex (Stay a Spell #4) by Juliette Cross

Hello Hello friends! Who is ready for another Stay a Spell  book? Here is the blurb: Livvy Savoie is a people person. Not only does she have the magical gift of persuasion, but her natural charisma charms everyone she meets. She hasn’t met a person she didn’t like. Until her annoyingly brilliant competitor walks through the door. No matter how hard she denies it, loathing isn’t the only emotion she feels for him. Grim reaper Gareth Blackwater is rarely, if ever, moved beyond his broody, stoic state. But the witch he’s partnered with in the public relations contest is destroying his peace of mind. He’s convinced that the flesh-melting attraction he feels for her is merely her witchy magic at work. But forced proximity proves there is more than magic sparking between them. Livvy learns this enigmatic grim’s abilities are beyond any supernatural she has ever known. And when Livvy becomes the obsessive target of a dangerous warlock, Gareth proves just how powerful he truly is. Because ...

The Gilded Ones (Deathless #1) by Namina Forna

There was a time where I loved nothing more than a good YA fantasy. I guess that time is passed... either that or the quality of YA books coming out has fallen. This wasn't a bad book, it just was underwhelming . It has a very good concept, a good start, a good climax point, but everything else felt flat. Deka leaves in fear of the Blood Ceremony Day- the day she finds out if her blood runs pure (red) or if she has gold blood, which is met with a death sentence. Needless to say, her blood runs gold. She is killed again and again just to wake, limbs reattaching themselves... It is a gory and interesting start. I was intrigued as to what she was and where this was going.  Someone from the capital comes an offers her a deal: fight for the emperor with other girls like her or stay at the village being killed until someone figures out how to give her her true death. Let's face it, it is an easy choice.  The book celebrates female friendships, sisterhood! Families from circumstance ...

No Judgments (Little Bridge Island #1) by Meg Cabot [arc review]

Easy to read romance!  ...but not at all what I hoped for...

My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren [audio book]

I love Christina Lauren and I never thought I would have to write a review less than positive for one of their books. But, here we are... I both loved it and hated it!

The Revenge Plan by Linda Kage [arc review]

I fell in love with Linda Kage's writing when I was introduced to her work with Monster Among the Roses  - It was AMAZING!  I wanted to love this one too, but I neither loved it or hated it. Some parts were brilliant, others really annoyed me.

Cavalier (Crimson Elite #1) by T.L. Smith

*adult content* Have you ever read the Blurb for an upcoming book, fell in love with it, than read the book and didn't quite understand how the author came up with that blurb? That is how I feel right now. it was a good book, but I feel cheated. I expected something else...

Dangerous Exes (Liars, Inc. #2) by Rachel Van Dyken

I have so many conflicting emotions right now... I loved the first book in the Liars, Inc. series,  Dirty Exes . So much so that I want to reread it right now. And because of that I had high expectations for Dangerous Exes. Did I like it? I think I did... but not all of it... there were great moments but overall it wasn't all that.

Frost Burn (Fire and Ice #1) by Erica Stevens

Frost Burn was the book picked for this month's PNR Book Club held by  PNR Book Lover Reviews blog . I did not dislike this book, but sadly I can't say I loved it either....

Unconscious Hearts (Hearts of Vegas #1) by Harper Sloan

I loved this book. I did not like this book. This was one of those reads that falls right dab in the middle between amazing and catastrophic. I will explain...

Obsidio by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufmann - 2.5 Stars

This pains me more than it pains you. Trust me on that. I LOVED Illuminae and Gemina . Could not stop raving about it! Obsidio however? nope. Can't say I loved it. The book was predictable from beginning to end and more than once I considered putting it aside and reading something else. Why did I carry on? Because I still love Kady, Hannah, Nik, Ezra, and Ella. Because I needed to know how their stories ended. It was worth it, but gosh it was painful at times!

Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones - 2.5 Stars

I have finally read Wintersong. I know, I know... it took me forever. I figured that with Shadowsong out it was about time to get on with it. I am conflicted though... I wanted to love this book so much... but I couldn't. The plot is clever, but it didn't always deliver. So I am going with the 'middle of the road' score: 2.5. Neither good or bad... a book that exists to help one pass time. The Blurb: All her life, nineteen-year-old Liesl has heard tales of the beautiful, mysterious Goblin King. He is the Lord of Mischief, the Ruler Underground, and the muse around which her music is composed. Yet, as Liesl helps shoulder the burden of running her family’s inn, her dreams of composition and childish fancies about the Goblin King must be set aside in favor of more practical concerns. But when her sister Käthe is taken by the goblins, Liesl journeys to their realm to rescue her sister and return her to the world above. The Goblin King agrees to let Käthe go—for a ...

One is a Promise by Pam Godwin 2.5/5 Stars

I don't really know what to say... I really liked the story-line and the book was very well written. When it ended -well, when I thought it should have ended- it was perfect. The perfect HEA (happily ever after). Trace was perfection! I love bad boys (in books) and he was the best arrogant, rude, self centered bad boy there is. Hot hot hot 😃 He also loved intensively and passionately. He helped her move on, he helped her let go of her dead fiance. Most importantly, he did not push. He wanted her, but he never pushed. He waited till she was ready. He was pure perfection!  But then... then the author messed it all up in the last 5 or so pages. I HATED the ending. Because of the book blurb I knew it was coming (I removed the last lines from the blurb for you guys since it is a massive spoiler), but that didn't make it any less surprising and infuriating.  It always amazes me how a 5 star book can turn into something you never want to read again because of the last...

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake- 2.5/5 Stars

Kendare Blake is the author of Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne, books I have come to truly enjoy, so I decided to give this a go. Sadly the book didn't do much for me. Similarly to Wicked like a Wildfire I find this neither good or bad. It has an interesting enough story, it just doesn't excite in any way. It was well written, had a good pace, a good enough story line.  First we have Cas, a ghost hunter of sorts. His father would kill murderous ghosts and after he was brutally murdered by one the ghosts Cas took up the job upon himself.  I didn't like him much to start with, very full of himself. But as the story progressed he became the most appealing thing in the book.  Then we have Anna, the ghost. She is this terrifying thing that kills everyone that gets anywhere near her house. Anyone but Cas of-course. She is scary for a whole 5 minutes. After that she is just boring. Not bad, just dull.  It is never explained why she doesn't have the...

Wicked like a wildfire by Lana Popovic - 2.5/5 stars

Wicked like a wildfire revolves around twin sisters Iris and Lina, brought up by their single mother. They have magic, or 'gleam' as they call it for the most part. All the woman in their bloodline can manipulate beauty. Their mother makes them hide theirs because of a curse. But one day she is struck down and the girls must now go and find out the truth and a way to bring their mother back. I am going to be honest and say that even when I read the blurb I was already thinking it sounded far to generic. Change the 'gleam' for a different sort of power, twin sisters to just sisters or friends, and there is a long list of books that follow that exact same story. That in itself is not bad, 'common stories' are popular because they work. People like them. I like them... Wicked like a wildfire is one of those books that is, as the saying goes, 'neither here nor there' for me. It was nice, but there was nothing special about it.  The main ...

Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare- 2.5/5 stars

Just another Shadowhunter story...  For the book blurb: Lord of Shadows GoodReads   I truly enjoy most Cassandra Clare stories, but I think I am, overall, getting a little tired of their predictability.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book. But there was a lot about it that I could have done without. It also dragged... and I very seldom can stand books that do that.  Lord of Shadows cannot, in my personal opinion be compared to Lady Midnight. LM was a much better book as a whole. The story moved a good paced, nothing felt forced. The same cannot be said about LoS. The good things: - Alec and Magnus give an appearance. One can never have enough of Alec and Magnus.  - Great family dynamics! I loved reading about the Blackthorn siblings in LM and even more here. Without them this book would have been a complete flop. The Blackthorn siblings make this readable and interesting.  - Kieran's character, who I hated in the first book h...
