Vandalar Concubines 1 to 4 by V. K. Ludwig

I don't read monster romance, I have tried a few and found it is not for me. All the tentacles and slime and whatnot are not for me at all. But I find that I enjoy alien romance a lot. Especially when the anatomy is not too different. This series was great. The exact amount of cheesiness and humor I wanted this past week. It reminds me very much of my favorite romance subgenre of all time - paranormal romance with shapeshifters, wolves and bears to be exact.  The first book in the series is Sign Here for Horns. Our heroine purchases herself an alien worker to help around the farm just to find out that he is a saikh. A saikh is a male concubine and trained to pleasure females in all ways possible. Their relationship is both funny and sweet. All he wants to do is pleasure her and all she wants (at least to start) is getting her farm working. Their different views on what and how to pleasure surely made for many funny scenes. Although slavery very obviously exists in this series, she...

Forget Me Not by Alexandra Oliva

My first thought upon finishing this book was that it would make a fantastic movie! The book tells the story of Linda, a gentle soul living in Seattle, alone and lonely. She spends most of her time locked up in her apartment with very little contact with the outside world. As the story progresses you find out why. Linda is a replacement child. Her mother found a way to 'make' her in order to replace her previous daughter that died. But Linda was not her, and could never replace her. So one day her mother just leaves.  Linda was left to raise herself at their walled-off property somewhere in rural Washington. Until one day, something makes her run, jump off the wall, and find a world that she didn't know existed and was definitely not ready for.  Years later in Seattle, when a new neighbor moves in, Anvi, Linda tries and hopes that she can maybe make a friend. That she can maybe be normal. Anvi introduces Linda to virtual reality and a whole different way to see things. Bu...

Resting Witch Face Stay a Spell #5 by Juliette Cross

Blurb: Second chance romance Vampire masquerade ball Only one bed Mutual pining Forced Proximity Twelve years ago,  Jules Savoie  ended her relationship with the vampire overlord of New Orleans,  Ruben Dubois . For good reasons. A woman in power must often make sacrifices to protect others. She knows the truth of it down to her aching heart. When Ruben watches his best friend Devraj get married, a stinging realization hits him hard… he’s done waiting . They say time heals all wounds. In this case, it merely sharpened the pain and made one fact crystal clear. Jules Savoie is his soulmate, and nothing would keep her from him. Not anymore. Parks and Provocation (Green Valley Heroes #2) by Juliette Cross

Parks and Provocation Another Juliete Cross win! Can this author write a bad book? I think not. From where I stand SmartyPants Romance is lucky to have Juliette in their team! Blurb: Lola Landry stares through the window of her locked car with the keys in the ignition and the radio blaring Beck’s “Loser.” While standing there and sweltering in the soupy Tennessee humidity, she wonders how her orderly life had crashed and burned so badly. Then her high school nemesis saunters up in all of his tall, strapping, fireman-to-the-rescue glory, slapping her with the humiliating proof that it can always get worse. When the uber-confident Jedediah Lawson requests a date in return for popping her lock, a lightbulb goes off. Revenge is sweet. He would make the perfect victim—guest, that is—for her next podcast episode on Kiss and Tell. What shocks her is the casual way he not only agrees to the post-date interview on air, but ends up hijacking her audience and wooing them with his swoony, southern...

Raphael and Jegudiel by Tillie Cole

Let's start off by saying that both these books need to come with heavy trigger warnings. If you have problems with just about anything that can be seen as 'wrong' or 'off putting', and I do mean anything  walk away. These books are not for you. Tillie Cole does not shy away from the dark and disturbing. Specially in the first book. She was a new author to me with Raphael  and I absolutely loved the book. I have already purchased an older title by her. I have been very much into dark romance lately and to find one that is so dark it can be uncomfortable to read, intense, creative, and yet also heartwarming and touching is not easy. Raphael has more darkness and intensity than Jegudiel, not the character, but the book as a whole. Overall I liked Raphael a smidge more, but that is not to say Diel's book wasn't great, it was. This series is about brothers by pain and hate. These man have been through hell and back and there is no way you are not going to feel f...

Quickies, April 2021

I read a good amount of older releases this past two months. I will not write long individual reviews for every single one of them but here are is a little bit about each one of them:  - Visions of Heat by Nalini Singh It's unlikely I will ever dislike something Nalini writes. She is a master of her craft. This is the second book in the Psy-Changeling series and it is just as good as the first. Shy and isolated Faith is plagued by visions of blood and murder. She has questions and needs help but can't ask those around her. She turns to the changelings and the only Psy she knows that has defied her race (first book in the series). Vaughn is more cat than human but has to control his instincts not to scare Faith away. This was a fabulous paranormal romance read but you really must read the first book first! 4 stars from me :)  - Desperate Measures by Katee Robert Desperate Measures is the story of Jafar and Jasmine. But if you read Katee before you know it is not that simple at...

Custom Made (Fast & Fury #2) by Chantal Fernando [arc review]

Custom Made, Chantal Fernando I thoroughly enjoy everything Chantal Fernando writes. All her books have some intrigue but are also very sweet. They truly are the perfect late night read. Blurb: Cameron Davies has the job she’s always wanted—designing custom motorcycles at Fast & Fury. No way is she going to screw this up. But when her wild, sexy one-night stand ends up being the shop’s new VIP client, her life is suddenly turned on its head. Orion Stenton radiates power, danger and, most of all, sex. His lavish lifestyle is fraught with dangers for Cam—and a far too intimate link to her past. She has to keep things professional, but it’s impossible to forget the feel of him or the way he whispers her name. The connection between them demands far more than a quick fling. But when Cam’s past puts Orion in danger, she must face her demons if she’s going to save them both. Although I loved this one I will start by saying you really should read the other book first. Part of the reason I...

Convict (Unfit Hero #1) by Hayley Faiman

Convict, Hayley Faiman This was my very first read by Hayley Faiman and it will most certainly not be the last. I am actually happy to say I own two more of her books already and can get started on it straight away. The book was 100% not what I was expecting. I knew little of her writing style or the series going into it besides the cover and the blurb. Both of which, to me, make Convict  sounds like a dark romance. That is not what this is at all. It is passionate, suspenseful, and the main characters backgrounds is a little dark. But it is not a dark romance. It is really really sweet. Rylan and Channing are perfect for each other in every way.  Blurb: Guilty. ExCon. Felon. Prisoner. Criminal. Words that now represent me. Words that keep any decent person away from me. I never gave much thought to words before now. Slut. Hussy. Whore. Homewrecker. Jezebel. Words that now reflect me. Words that will stay indefinitely. The evidence of those words grow inside of me. Those Words...

Namesake (Fable #2) by Adrienne Young

Trader. Fighter. Survivor. With the Marigold ship free of her father, Fable and its crew were set to start over. That freedom is short-lived when she becomes a pawn in a notorious thug’s scheme. In order to get to her intended destination she must help him to secure a partnership with Holland, a powerful gem trader who is more than she seems. As Fable descends deeper into a world of betrayal and deception she learns that her mother was keeping secrets, and those secrets are now putting the people Fable cares about in danger. If Fable is going to save them then she must risk everything, including the boy she loves and the home she has finally found. The Review: 4 Stars I enjoyed Namesake  a lot more than I enjoyed the first book in the series, Fable.  Overall the book had a much better pacing. I remember complaining that although I liked Fable  it lagged at times, but that really wasn't an issue here. There was a twist coming or something about to happen at all times, and ...

"Quickies" March 2021

It has been some time since I've had to write one of these. I've read a lot of books these last two months and haven't really had the time to sit and write a long review on every single on of them. So I hope the few short lines bellow help you some.  Thanks for reading!  Kiss of the Highlander (Highlander #4) by Karen Marie Moning, 5 Stars & The Immortal Highlander (Highlander #6) by Karen Marie Moning, 4 Stars This series is an easy "go-to" for me when I want to read something I know I will like and that won't take me forever to finish. Kiss of the Highlander  has some humor while being romantic and sexy. Drustan has been "sleeping" for nearly five centuries when Gwen, literally, falls on top of him. From than on is a matter of him convincing her he is not mad and her deciding if she trusts and believes on him or not. As for The Immortal Highlander , I wouldn't recommend reading this one without having read the previous books. Adam Black is ...

The Edge of Falling by Rebecca Serle [ALC Review]

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle was easily one of my favorite reads last year and I was very excited to read this book by her. I am not 100% sure what the exactly release date was but I think the print book was released in 2014 and Simon and Schuster picked up in audio format this year. It was released (re-released?) February 2nd. I listened to this beauty on libro.fm pretty much in one sitting.  The Blurb: Sorrow can be seductive—but can hope triumph over heartbreak? A dark and searing novel from the  New York Times  bestselling author of   In Five Years . Caggie never wanted to be a hero, but some things are decided for us. Growing up among Manhattan’s social elite, Caggie always had everything a girl could want, including a storied last name. But after saving a girl from the brink of suicide, Caggie becomes infamous, and now all she wants is to be left alone. After all, she’s still reeling from the recent death of her younger sister, the subsequent destruct...

The Fallen Angel Trilogy by Kim Loraine

Waking the Watcher Denying the Watcher Releasing the Watcher This serieswas a fun paranormal and erotica trilogy. Each book focuses on a different couple but the background story on the first two books gets resolved in book 3, and as such, the series should not be read out of order. The background story is Sariel’s, an angel who fell from heaven when he chose to stay on earth with the woman he fell in love with instead of being a ‘watcher’ for God. His job was to watch, not to interact and interfere. When he fell, so did hundreds of others hoping to find the same kind of love that he did. Some did, some are now under the influence of Lucifer. Sariel’s love died not long after he fell -during the flood- and he has spent thousands of years dormant with no body of his own inside the mind of others. On book one he wakes up. He believes that the vampire whose body he is inhabiting has found the reincarnation of his mate. But is she his mate, or is she the vampire’s mate and he ...

Highland Gladiator (Scots and Swords #1) by Kathryn Le Veque

The title of this gem is so accurate and appropriate that if you were to describe the book in two words it would easily be Highland Gladiator ! 😊

Mistletoe in Paradise (Wildstone #5.5) by Jill Shalvis [ALC review]

This was a really short novella but like everything else Jill Shalvis writes, it was a delight!  The Blurb: Problem Number One – Getting There Old childhood friends each fly separately to join their families on what’s been an annual holiday themed yacht adventure. Secret ex-lovers, Hannah and James are determined to make the best of things… Problem Number Two – Getting Stuck. When everyone but Hannah and James gets held up in an airport snarl, it leaves them stuck together for four days, making Hannah’s already problematic trip a whole lot harder to face. Especially because she comes bearing more than just gifts… Problem Number Three -- Falling In Love (again) As the former lovers try to make the best of the Christmas snafu, they soon realize that the best things in life can’t be planned and sometimes love is sweeter the second time around. The Review: 4 Stars I find it hard writing reviews for novellas. I am always afraid I will give the story away since it is so short.  Mist...

Crush (Crave #2) by Tracy Wolff

I really enjoyed Crushed . More than Crave ? Yup. Definitely! It was a lot more interesting and engaging. Blurb: Everything feels off—especially me. I’ve returned to Katmere Academy, but I’m haunted by fragments of days I have no recollection of living and struggling to understand who, or what, I really am. Just when I start to feel safe again, Hudson is back with a vengeance. He insists there are secrets I don’t know about, threatening to drive a wedge between Jaxon and me forever. But far worse enemies are at our doorstep.   The Circle is caught in a power play and the Vampire Court is trying to drag me out of my world and into theirs. The only thing Hudson and Jaxon agree on is that leaving Katmere would mean my certain death.   And not only am I fighting for my life, but now everyone else’s is at stake—unless we can defeat an unspeakable evil. All I know is that saving the people I love is going to require sacrifice. Maybe more than I’m able to give. The Crav...
